Bedroam Bushcraft and Woodland Walks

Throughout most of the year, our Bedroam bus is situated in our wonderful private woodland. This idyllic site provides our guests with the space and freedom to bring chosen activities to the site itself.

Our latest guests hired local experienced outdoor teacher Andrew Middleton of Wild Country Walkabouts to run some fun bush craft activities for the group.

Bushcraft.jpg

Starting with a problem solving task, the team were paired off, tied up with rope and had to solve the rope puzzle in order to set them free. Next up was the woodland treasure hunt searching for clues throughout the wood using a map. The winning team then had to lead everyone to the buried treasure and share their spoils (quite possibly alcohol related!). Then on to gathering kindling and firewood to build and maintain a small fire. This enabled them to race against the others, to be the first to present Andrew with a perfectly toasted marshmallow (Golden brown, texture like sun!).

Finally, working together as one group, they had to rescue a bottle of bubbly from a tree working with limited resources against the clock. This generated much excitement and eventually joy as they achieved their task! The session was a success and Andrew gave some great feedback:

The Bedroam site proved to be a fantastic venue for the activities, one I would be delighted to use again. The group were a joy to work with. Working with groups like this one is always a pleasure and reminds me why I choose to do this kind of work. I know the group were delighted that Ollie was supportive of me coming onto site to provide them with activities, rather than them having to travel elsewhere.
— Andrew Middleton

Based on the outskirts of York, Bedroam is the perfect site for Hen and Stag weekends or groups, providing luxury ‘unique’ group accommodation near a popular party city but set within a peaceful and private environment – it really gives the best of both worlds!

We want our groups to use and enjoy the space in our Bedroam Woods and get as creative as you like. If you are looking for a luxury glamping group stay near York, and fancy adding in some woodland group activities, then get in touch and we can help you to arrange the best package for your needs – we look forward to hearing from you!

Music Festival Hen Party

Our latest guests, a Hen Party from the West Midlands, decided to treat their Hen to a Music Festival in our secluded woodland glamping site near York. This is the third private Music Festival we have had, and they seem to be going down a storm!

music-festival-hen-party.jpg

The group organised the amazing Tin Soldiers band from Sheffield to entertain them for the evening; playing funky tunes brass band style! The band were well looked after (I'm not sure they had ever been provided with so many drinks at a gig before) and were invited to join in the festivities into the early hours!

The site was decorated with plenty of bunting, pom poms, hay bales and even a DIY photo booth!

After a few hours dancing the ladies were able to chillax in their hired hot tub which was sited under the brand new 'Bus Stop'! Fortunately, it didn't need any shelter as the weekend had the most amazing weather!

5 Outdoor Games For Your Hen Do

5 Outdoor Games For Your Hen Do

If you want the best glamping York has to offer then get in touch with us to find out what we’ve got in store for you!

If you decide to make most of your hen do an outdoors affair, then make sure you have some of these games up your sleeve to get out when the sun shines.

Lawn twister
Get the spray paint out and play this game on the lawn. Use stencils to ensure your circles are as clear as possible.

Frozen t-shirt race
Freeze a couple of t-shirts in plastic bags to see who can defrost them and put them on the quickest. This is ideal for a particularly sweltering day in the summer.

Bean bag ladder toss
This simple game is perfect for adding some forfeits to. Simply toss the bean bags onto the rungs of the ladder, assigning each rung with a different type of forfeit. Go on, we dare you!

Picnic basket relay
Play this one just before lunch. Teams compete to see who can set up a picnic first. You can then race to see who can pack it all up quick enough to pass on to another team member.

Lemon jousting
This is a fun one. Get wooden spoons and see how long you can balance a lemon on the end of it. Then get competitive: can you knock a lemon off the end of your opponent’s spoon? Take it even more competitive by getting into teams.

How to keep spending on a Stag or Hen Do under control

We all know that attending other people’s weddings can add up, as can going on a stag or hen do. While most of us don’t mind splashing out to give our best friends a good send off into married life, that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t like to save a bit of money here and there.

In fact, research published by hotel chain Jurys Inn has found that we’re willing to pay an average of £181.82 for a stag or hen do. However, the survey has also found that a growing number of brides and grooms are saving money by choosing to have their last hurrah in the UK. And that makes sense, especially if you choose somewhere that doesn’t involve too much travelling for the majority of your family and friends.

There are so many unusual places to stay, that you don’t necessarily need to travel far to feel as though you’re somewhere completely different. For example, Bedroam offers unique hen party accommodation in a stunning woodland setting that’s within easy reach of York.

Hiring this kind of self-catering accommodation allows you to keep costs a little lower - and the more people who can stay, the cheaper it gets for everyone.

So, if you want to have a relaxed, enjoyable stag or hen do at a very reasonable price why not book a stay at Bedroam? Take time to unwind in the Bedroam woodland, have a BBQ with friends and family, visit local attractions and explore the beautiful surrounding Yorkshire countryside. However, if you do want to dance the night away you don’t have to travel too far to find bars and clubs in the local area. The historical city of York offers a wonderful selection of restaurants, bars and clubs as well as some brilliant live music venues. There really is something for everyone!

We are very happy to be partnering up with Andrew Middleton from Wild Country Walkabouts and Erik Aaron from Erik Aaron Shooting this year. Both parties offer unique activities which we are delighted to present as bespoke packages to our guests.

Whether you are booking Bedroam for a Birthday Party, Hen Do or Stag Do, or simply having a glamping weekend away with friends, you can now choose to do on-site activities as well as exploring the local area! Racing And Music Combine For Perfect Hen Do Weekend

York races are a perennial favourite for hen do groups visiting the city, and we have many revellers come to us for the best hen party accommodation York has to offer as part of their visit.

When the races hold special events, large group accommodation in York can be hard to find, so if you fancy combining a day of watching racing with some brilliant music entertainment, get your enquiries in for Summer Music Saturdays at the course.

The first headliner has now been announced, with singer Paloma Faith taking to the stage on the 30th June. She has chosen the racecourse as a part of her tour for her number one album ‘The Architect’, which is on track to make her the first female artist to have four double platinum albums in a row.

Announcing the date, Paloma said: “I'm really looking forward to playing York Racecourse next summer, it'll be one of the first chances I'll get to play tracks from The Architect in the sunshine. I love a day out at the races too so can't wait for it,” reports Conference and Events York.

Tickets are on sale now at yorkracecourse.co.uk and of course also includes access to the seven thoroughbred racing contests held on the course.

If you can’t make that weekend, why not wait until the 27th and 28th of July, which will also have top music acts playing. They will be announced in due course, but are sure to be worth booking your visit now.

Bedroam Luxury and Convenience

I consider myself to be an outgoing person. I have the most amazing friends; it’s nice that we have all managed to stay in touch over the years. A lot of celebrations have been shared including Birthdays, Weddings and Hen and Stag parties. It’s always good to have a camera ready to capture those special moments! In recent years, I’ve noticed quite a few couples opting to do a joint Hen and Stag party known as a “Hag.” This type of joint celebration seems to be becoming more and more popular and I can see why; less organizing and more fun!

Over the years, Stag and Hen parties have become more and more elaborate. Gone are the days of limited ideas and confined spaces for guests to enjoy themselves in. Nowadays people like to celebrate over a whole weekend. This has created so much more scope for party planners enabling them to create some truly memorable experiences. Bedroam will enhance your guests experience even more by providing them with a luxury accommodation with a difference! 18 luxury Japanese style sleeping pods await your guests; providing a comfortable place to relax, sleep and unwind. There are also 2 fully equipped bathrooms as well as an 8 metre awning with sofas and a small kitchen area including a fridge for those bottles of Champagne!

Bedroam offers unique luxury accommodation in its very own private woodland setting. Conveniently located near the historic city of York, we can arrange transportation to and from York should you wish to go off and do your own thing during your Hen or Stag weekend. Alternatively, you may wish to create your own Hen and Stag party within the Bedroam Woodland. Either way, Bedroam provides a comfortable place to relax, sleep and unwind during your weekend glamping getaway.

There are so many different options to choose from to make your weekend even more fun. York and the surrounding area has an abundance of tourist attractions to suit everyone’s interests. You could choose different themes for your event such as a Yoga Retreat, Survival Weekend, Bush Craft Training, Fitness Training, Spa Day or a Mini Music Festival. Now you can steal away with some friends on a Hen and Stag weekend while taking advantage of the convenience Bedroam offers. So go ahead, plan the perfect Hen & Stag weekend, make it a memorable and unique experience. Book your luxury group accommodation on Bedroam now.

End of Year Review

End of Year Review

As we bid farewell to 2017, it is time to review our performance over the last 12 months. There have been many ups and downs, great progress has been made by the Company and numerous guests have been served. For all our readers, here we will give an overview of how our year has been: -

Beginning of the Year
Our year started off early with our first guests arriving in March. Bedroam was hired for 18 wedding guests to visit Sledmere House. For those who don’t know, Sledmere House is East Yorkshire’s finest Country House offering a unique combination of art, history, architecture and glorious gardens. For over 200 years Sledmere House has captivated a lot of visitors and rightly so. Bedroam provided the wedding guests with a relaxed, private atmosphere making sure the experience was even more memorable and fun. Our journey to serving people continued in April where we welcomed our guests to the Bedroam Woodland for their glamping experience. Guests had hired the bus for a 21 st birthday celebration and what great merriments they had! Bedroam made sure guests had the time of their lives by helping them decorate the site and also arranging transport for them so that they could have a night out in York “The Jewel of Yorkshire”. All these memories made a flying start to our year.

During the Year
No feeling can be as good as serving the customers and spreading smiles all around. July marked the launch of our fantastic Facebook Glamping Giveaway. The competition literally became the talk of the town and received over 400 entries. Our lucky winner, Laura Cowling, enjoyed her stay in September and made use of the site in the best way possible by inviting her family and friends.

This year was also full of surprises as Bedroam also catered for a corporate stay welcoming Blue Logic Computers who are based in Leeds to our woodland glamping site. Everything was good except for the weather conditions. The summer season didn’t allow our guests to enjoy the lovely woodland location in its full glory. However, they still had a great time as they decided to party into the early hours.

Bedroam’s journey of providing convenient and top class services continued in the middle of the year when a group of people from London came to attend the Leeds Festival. Our guests wanted to arrange their own festival at the woodland site. We helped them with all the décor as well as arranging transport for them to and from Leeds Festival.

Our success continued to the later part of the year when our owner Ollie Kemp was given the opportunity to tour the famous Sunseeker Yacht factory in Poole. Ollie Kemp was smart enough to derive some great ideas to incorporate them into Bedroam.

Future Looks Bright
With a solid foundation laid by 2017, the future looks extremely bright for Bedroam. A lot of ideas have accumulated which will be incorporated into our business structure in the coming year.

The reviews we have been getting from our customers are very heart-warming and we aim to serve them in a more improved way in 2018. The messages of thanks we receive from our customers are our badge of pride that we love to wear with great honour. One review that we would like to share is:

“We stayed in Bedroam over Bank Holiday August weekend for my friend’s hen party. We hosted a private mini-festival with a musician on a Friday night and used it as our base before going to Leeds Festival on Saturday. The bus is amazing and Ollie was a brilliantly helpful, flexible and attentive host. Nothing was too much trouble, and he even helped us book transfers to and back from Leeds Festival. I honestly couldn’t recommend Bedroam any more highly. Such a unique and cool glamping experience.”

2017 also marked the success of our Facebook page where we crossed the milestone of over 2500 followers. With all the praise we have received last year we hope for an even better 2018. Our focus is now on improving our website by making it more interactive for the user. Moreover, we would also look to improve our woodland glamping site adding certain enhancements. Last but not the least, we will be looking for some new partnerships with companies who can make Bedroam a more comfortable and convenient experience for our customers.

What To Pack For A Yorkshire Glamping Trip

What To Pack For A Yorkshire Glamping Trip

There’s nothing like a little trip away and having a staycation is a brilliant way of getting some much-needed rest and relaxation… you don’t have to go far to enjoy a wonderful holiday so what about booking yourself a Yorkshire glamping trip ahead of next year? Here are a few packing essentials you must bring with you for a weekend in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside!

Appropriate clothing
Do not, under any circumstances, forget your wellies or walking boots, thick socks (several pairs) and a raincoat. Don’t forget that we do live in the UK and the heavens are prone to opening at a moment’s notice and you don’t want to get caught short in a downpour.

A good book
Glamping is all about escaping the hustle and bustle of real life so make sure you bring a good book with you to get some really meaningful alone time. Bliss!

Outdoor games
There’s lots of space to roam around in so do yourself a favour and bring something like a Frisbee or a football with you. If there are lots of you (our glamping coach sleeps 18, you know!) you could bring a cricket or rounders set along and really put yourselves through your paces.

Your swimsuit
Even if you’re going glamping in winter, bring your bathers because you can always arrange hot tub hire if you want to. You’ll easily while away a few hours in the tub with your pals and some champagne!

A torch
You might fancy a midnight stroll so make sure you bring a torch with you just in case you do want to venture out after dark.

Unusual Hen and Stag Parties

Unusual Hen and Stag Parties

We’ve been getting connected with party planners, Freedom, they’ve been sending parties to York since 1996 and are industry leaders in the world of hen and stag parties.

We were interested to hear from MD Mike Wood about what was unusual, new and available for York stag weekends and hen parties in York.

He told us firstly that the demand for unusual accommodation was on the increase, Freedom’s sales team had noticed more and more customers asking for accommodation away from the norm. Well that’s all music to our BEDROAM ears.

Freedom pride themselves in offering a vast array of variety in terms of unusual hen activities and alternative stag party activities. Mike has noticed over the years that traditions are there to be broken, whilst pampering for the ladies and paintball for the gents will always remain popular, there are new kids on the block offering something a bit different. It could be unusual, unconventional, unexpected or taking a walk on the crazy side.

Stunt Driving – yes, really, you get behind the wheel and have a go.
Megamix – why decide on 1 activity when you can have several.
TV Movie Tours – calling all lovers of Emmerdale.
Flash Mob Dance – you learn the dance and then surprise all the guests at the wedding reception.
Perfume Creation – well the celebs are all at it, why not you?

Thinking about tomorrow is on Freedom’s agenda and so always on the lookout for what’s new and going to be a hit. In York they’ve just added Afternoon Tease, a treat for the ladies in that a semi naked butler serves your afternoon tea, so delights all round. It would seem alcohol accompanies most hen and stag dos, so Gin Tasting and Bottomless Lunch (free flowing Prosecco) will do down a storm.
