Waste Awareness

Waste Awareness

There are so many ways to help with the ongoing battle against polluting this fabulous planet. Whether it’s cutting down on plastics, using less energy/water, reducing the amount of waste or giving biodiversity a helping hand!

recycle-symbol.jpg

It’s great to see how much waste is recycled nowadays compared to say 10/15 years ago. Leeds Festival operates a brilliant recycling system where you can hand in any broken tents, camping chairs etc. at one of their recycling points. Charities benefit too, as any camping equipment that is found to be in full working order will be passed across to them to sell on. Far better than the items ending up in Landfill! Hats off to Leeds Festival as they are very inspiring!

Green Tourism is an organisation encouraging businesses to review their recycling policies by operating a 3-tier certification scheme. Dependent upon the level of green procedures you have in place (and whether they are up to the Green Tourism standard!), you can achieve a bronze, silver or gold certificate. Once you have obtained your certificate, Green Tourism continue to annually monitor the standard along with any additional environmentally friendly procedures you may put in place. It’s a good way of keeping up-to-date with any new environmental issues whilst ensuring your business continues to make improvements.

Here at Bedroam we are continually looking at ways we can reduce our impact on the environment. We have put numerous recycling systems in place but there is always more you can do! To help with the ongoing reduction in waste, we have a recycling bin in place to encourage guests to join us in our quest to be greener. The shampoo/shower gel we provide has not been tested on animals and the bottles are recyclable. Rather than providing our guests with bottled water, we now have a water dispenser in place helping further reduce the amount of plastic we use. Solid cutlery is available for our guests to use instead of disposable plastic ones. From an energy point of view a wind turbine could be the way forward and/or possibly using solar panels. We will be looking into this over the next five years. Who knows, there may be another option or two to choose from by then? We continually review the ways in which we can improve our recycling procedures to see if there are more sustainable markets out there that we can use.

bedroam-bar-wide.jpg

We have a fabulous opportunity to encourage biodiversity in our woodland. We already have some amazing wildlife and are looking for specific plants to add to attract more bees and butterflies to the site. There are quite a few specialist meadow mixes available nowadays. You don’t need a large area of land to make a difference to wildlife!

Staycations are becoming more and more popular and another great way to reduce your carbon footprint! Bedroam uses local suppliers and tradesman and our guests also help reduce their own carbon footprint as any amenities/activities they may wish to experience are all on Bedroams doorstep!

We can all make changes so come on let’s make a start today!

Outdoor Eating at Bedroam

Outdoor Eating at Bedroam

Here at Bedroam we are always looking for ways of improving our guests experience. We wanted to provide an alternative to the trusty BBQ for outdoor cooking. We are delighted to be able to offer guests use of the fabulous Roccbox pizza oven by Gozney which complements our own brand very nicely. Like Bedroam, it’s stylish, efficient and something just ‘a little bit different’ for you and your close friends to enjoy. A truly unique experience.

pizza-oven.jpg

Grill, bake, cook... you name it, the Roccbox can do it. From the obvious all-time favourite pizza, to dishes such as T-Bone steak, chargrilled vegetables, spicy buffalo wings, one tray breakfasts, spatchcock chicken and jacket potatoes. The list just goes on and on. It’s simply an all-rounder!

It takes just 60 seconds to bake a pizza and there is very little mess. Quick, tidy, and easy to use; just what you need when relaxing at our Bedroam woodland site! Whether you’re a budding chef or just wanting to enhance your cooking skills, the Roccbox pizza oven is a fun way to produce great tasting food for everyone. You could even add ‘making your own pizza’ to the list of activities for you and your guests to do. It’s a great way to bond, team build and most importantly have fun! We can’t wait to hear all the great feedback about this special oven.

Bring on the summer!

End of Year Review

End of Year Review

What an eventful year 2018 has been! As usual there have been ups and downs but overall Bedroam has been achieving great things. Looking back with a smile we have met some great characters, partnered with some excellent companies and enjoyed our busiest year to date. On a personal level I am immensely proud of my team around me. Every year the standard gets higher and without them it just would not be possible.

What happened in 2018

The year started off as we meant to go on with our opening month fully booked. There were a few new structural additions to the site including ‘The Bus Stop’ which provides shelter from the elements while our guests either gather round the firepit, the outside bar or take a dip in a hot tub! Thanks to the shelter we now literally have you covered. It’s been a winner with everyone so far!

In terms of partnerships, we have enjoyed successful events with Erik Aaron and as always, the amazing puzzle master himself Andrew Middleton. It’s great that we can now offer our guests onsite activities including Clay Pigeon Shooting, Archery, Bushcraft and Treasures Hunts.

Helping on the booking side of the business, we partnered up with Booking.com who have given us even more exposure to potential customers.

We have been very lucky with the great British weather and hosted a fabulous summer wedding as well some new corporate group weekends. The unusually great summer even meant we managed to squeeze in a mini-music festival supported by the best brass brand around, Tin Soldiers.

The finale to the year was a New Year’s Eve Party held at a manor house in the local area. Bedroam provided accommodation for some of the guests who had travelled from around the country. The house was full to the brim but thankfully Bedroam was there to step in. The party was simply amazing, and everyone will remember it for years to come.

The Highlight

Bedroam was captured in its full glory by the amazing Allan Scott who created our first promotional video. Myself and the team created lists of ideas for how things might work and what our vision should look like. With lots of planning and consideration things slowly came together. As normal the weather was a concern as we were heading towards Autumn but it all worked out well and the result was something we are all very proud of. Thanks again to everyone involved.

Strategy for 2019

My goal remains the same and I am more focused than ever. I want to keep providing a unique glamping experience that stands out and improves year upon year. There are so many more ideas to bring to fruition, so fingers crossed I will get everything done. Work is well under way for the next exciting addition so here’s to another productive year. It’s going to be the best yet!

Bedroam Promo Video 2018

Lights. Camera. ACTION!

We are so thrilled to have finally completed our first promo video and cannot wait to share it with you very soon!

After having seen quite a few celebrations aboard Bedroam this year with our fabulous guests, we thought it would be a great idea to show you what can be achieved and experienced during a stay with us! We had quite a few ideas to choose from; weddings, birthday parties, festivals, corporate events etc. We finally settled on two of our most popular events; a Stag Do (showing various outdoor activities) and a Hen Do with a Festival vibe. We wanted to show Bedroam off in all its glory!

bedroam-promo-video.jpg

Having drawn up a rough plan, we needed to find a film company up for the challenge. There was only one man for the job, Mr. Allan Scott from A S commercial filming based in York. Having personally worked with Alan on a film by the amazing theatrical music group, Vesper Walk (with whom I am a member), I knew he was right for the project! Allan was contacted and visited the Bedroam site post haste to check the location out. Final tweaks were made to ‘The Plan’, props purchased, and Extras arranged. Time to get down to business!

The filming took place over two Saturdays in the middle of September. The first day of shooting focused on the great activities that can take place at Bedroam for a Stag Do. Bedroam has a decent sized clearing in the wood which is ideal for Archery and Clay Pigeon Shooting. One of our previous guests had booked Erik Aaron for his Stag Do. The Hen Do was filmed on the following Saturday. A festival vibe was created using various types of decorations including brightly coloured pom poms, garlands and fairy lights. We also wanted to show how relaxing our Woodland can be, so naturally we just had to have a hot tub! How would your group relax during your stay with Bedroam?

The video is now in post-production and will be unveiled in the near future!

Bedroam Bushcraft and Woodland Walks

Bedroam Bushcraft and Woodland Walks

Throughout most of the year, our Bedroam bus is situated in our wonderful private woodland. This idyllic site provides our guests with the space and freedom to bring chosen activities to the site itself.

Our latest guests hired local experienced outdoor teacher Andrew Middleton of Wild Country Walkabouts to run some fun bush craft activities for the group.

Bushcraft.jpg

Starting with a problem solving task, the team were paired off, tied up with rope and had to solve the rope puzzle in order to set them free. Next up was the woodland treasure hunt searching for clues throughout the wood using a map. The winning team then had to lead everyone to the buried treasure and share their spoils (quite possibly alcohol related!). Then on to gathering kindling and firewood to build and maintain a small fire. This enabled them to race against the others, to be the first to present Andrew with a perfectly toasted marshmallow (Golden brown, texture like sun!).

fire.jpg

Finally, working together as one group, they had to rescue a bottle of bubbly from a tree working with limited resources against the clock. This generated much excitement and eventually joy as they achieved their task! The session was a success and Andrew gave some great feedback:

The Bedroam site proved to be a fantastic venue for the activities, one I would be delighted to use again. The group were a joy to work with. Working with groups like this one is always a pleasure and reminds me why I choose to do this kind of work. I know the group were delighted that Ollie was supportive of me coming onto site to provide them with activities, rather than them having to travel elsewhere.
— Andrew Middleton

Based on the outskirts of York, Bedroam is the perfect site for Hen and Stag weekends or groups, providing luxury ‘unique’ group accommodation near a popular party city but set within a peaceful and private environment – it really gives the best of both worlds!

We want our groups to use and enjoy the space in our Bedroam Woods and get as creative as you like. If you are looking for a luxury glamping group stay near York, and fancy adding in some woodland group activities, then get in touch and we can help you to arrange the best package for your needs – we look forward to hearing from you!

Music Festival Hen Party

Music Festival Hen Party

Our latest guests, a Hen Party from the West Midlands, decided to treat their Hen to a Music Festival in our secluded woodland glamping site near York. This is the third private Music Festival we have had, and they seem to be going down a storm!

music-festival-hen-party.jpg

The group organised the amazing Tin Soldiers band from Sheffield to entertain them for the evening; playing funky tunes brass band style! The band were well looked after (I'm not sure they had ever been provided with so many drinks at a gig before) and were invited to join in the festivities into the early hours!

tin-soldiers-band.jpg

The site was decorated with plenty of bunting, pom poms, hay bales and even a DIY photo booth!

hot-tub.jpg

After a few hours dancing the ladies were able to chillax in their hired hot tub which was sited under the brand new 'Bus Stop'! Fortunately, it didn't need any shelter as the weekend had the most amazing weather!

5 Outdoor Games For Your Hen Do

5 Outdoor Games For Your Hen Do

If you want the best glamping York has to offer then get in touch with us to find out what we’ve got in store for you!

If you decide to make most of your hen do an outdoors affair, then make sure you have some of these games up your sleeve to get out when the sun shines.

Lawn twister
Get the spray paint out and play this game on the lawn. Use stencils to ensure your circles are as clear as possible.

Frozen t-shirt race
Freeze a couple of t-shirts in plastic bags to see who can defrost them and put them on the quickest. This is ideal for a particularly sweltering day in the summer.

Bean bag ladder toss
This simple game is perfect for adding some forfeits to. Simply toss the bean bags onto the rungs of the ladder, assigning each rung with a different type of forfeit. Go on, we dare you!

Picnic basket relay
Play this one just before lunch. Teams compete to see who can set up a picnic first. You can then race to see who can pack it all up quick enough to pass on to another team member.

Lemon jousting
This is a fun one. Get wooden spoons and see how long you can balance a lemon on the end of it. Then get competitive: can you knock a lemon off the end of your opponent’s spoon? Take it even more competitive by getting into teams.

How to keep spending on a Stag or Hen Do under control

We all know that attending other people’s weddings can add up, as can going on a stag or hen do. While most of us don’t mind splashing out to give our best friends a good send off into married life, that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t like to save a bit of money here and there.

In fact, research published by hotel chain Jurys Inn has found that we’re willing to pay an average of £181.82 for a stag or hen do. However, the survey has also found that a growing number of brides and grooms are saving money by choosing to have their last hurrah in the UK. And that makes sense, especially if you choose somewhere that doesn’t involve too much travelling for the majority of your family and friends.

There are so many unusual places to stay, that you don’t necessarily need to travel far to feel as though you’re somewhere completely different. For example, Bedroam offers unique hen party accommodation in a stunning woodland setting that’s within easy reach of York.

Hiring this kind of self-catering accommodation allows you to keep costs a little lower - and the more people who can stay, the cheaper it gets for everyone.

So, if you want to have a relaxed, enjoyable stag or hen do at a very reasonable price why not book a stay at Bedroam? Take time to unwind in the Bedroam woodland, have a BBQ with friends and family, visit local attractions and explore the beautiful surrounding Yorkshire countryside. However, if you do want to dance the night away you don’t have to travel too far to find bars and clubs in the local area. The historical city of York offers a wonderful selection of restaurants, bars and clubs as well as some brilliant live music venues. There really is something for everyone!
